Walls and Floors

What a weekend! Walls have been built and the floor trusses set and the main floor put on! There are way to many little details about the weekend to put on here, but let's just say that life happens. Some things went way slower than expected, and at least one truss was the wrong size. Fortunately, it was too long, so it could be cut to size. Mom Ricky and I were the official "Go-fers", including getting the floor sheeting from Grandma's barn! That was a chore, but not nearly like what the guys were doing. Enjoy the pictures!

Here's Jeff, (Uncle) Mike, and Bruce working on those floor trusses.

Here is the view going into the basement.

Inside the basement will be all open. The wall to the left is the stair well.

The room on the right will be moms' room. When they get old and decrepid.(SP?) :)
The room on the left will be the laundry. The pipes sticking out of the floor is a bathroom.

Here is the floor as seen from the front bedrooms looking toward the garage.

Kick it in to HIGH GEAR!

Deep breath. Suck it in. No Whining. Here we go.

After what has seemed to be an unending series of "Hurry up and wait" days. The basement is finally done. So what did we do to celebrate?! We worked on it. We prepped the walls for the floor trusses to be placed. We worked on it until 9:30 PM. (And be "We", I mean Jeff.) I, of course am his lovely assistant. :)

Here is Jeff working hard on the walls. He said that he didn't have time to smile, but he is having fun. I put the blue foam stuff down while he was cutting the boards to fit. (see, I'm useful)

Here's a view of the newly poured garage floor.

Last, but not least, is the view from the garage looking into the basement and out the walk out. The two front bedrooms will be to the right. The picture doesn't do it justice for the size.

Let there be WALLS!

Here are those hard workers pouring concrete to form the walls! They had quite the contraption going on there. (I'm sure that isn't the technical term for their equipment.)

Here are the walls once the forms were removed the next day! We are well on our way now! You can tell that we got a little rain. We've had a pump running for nearly 24 hours to get the water out!

Jeff will be putting in the downstairs plumbing and then those guys will be back to pour the floors. We are seriously seeing the need for the ground to slope away from the house so all this water will not flood our basement! Of course, Jeff knew that.

8 Measley Hours

Wow, these guys work fast! (once the weather cooperates, that is) In a little over 8 hours, we have a hole and footings poured with concrete!
Our pastor and his son stopped by to take a picture for a competition. The theme for the competition is "First things first". Any builder of anything will tell you that a strong foundation is what you need for a strong building. The foundation is buried and takes on the entire weight of the structure. Isn't this how God works!? Jesus Christ is our foundation, although unseen by human eyes, buried in our own hearts, bears the entire weight of our personal structure. Without HIM we would eventually fall into the earth and disappear. How grateful I am that, just as our house will have a strong foundation, our lives are built on the surest foundation of them all. And even if our house crumbled, our lives would not. Hmmm...I feel some lessons coming in the next 6 months as this project unfolds!
